PS3 Firmware Update Now Available

Earlier today, a new firmware for PlayStation 3 owners became available for download.  If you are familiar with these updates, then there is a good chance that you also found this one to be more of an annoyance rather than something important.  Surprisingly enough, this update actaully added some new features to PS3 plus member or a 3D television owner.

One of the main changes included in this update deals with the Automatic Download feature which has now been renamed to Automatic Update.  Now besides downloading updates for different games, the Automatic Update will also automatically sync your trophies with PSN as well as upload saved games to online storage for backup.

As for all of you 3D tv owners out there, there have been three updates included in the new firmware that are in your favor.  First off, 3D support is now enabled whenever you browse a Blu-ray’s special features that run on Java.  Second, 3D digital photos can now be viewed in 3D from the XMB. Finally, lossless audio is available when watching a Blu-ray movie in 3D.

The XMB has also had a minor chance in which a new category has been added and named “TV/Video Services”.  In this new category you will be able to access and browse all of the different apps that you have downloaded in the past such as Netflix, Hulu, or even NHL GameCenter.

So enjoy the firmware update you guys, this is one of the few that actually offers some pretty cool features.
