Google+ Traffic Increases 1,269%

Ever since the “new” social networking site, Google+, has opened their doors to the world, it seems that a lot of people want in.

According to Heather Dougherty, a director of research at Hitwise in the US, “Google+ emerged as the third largest site in the Social Network and Forums category last Wednesday [in the US], a day after the site went from ‘invitation-only’ to ‘open access’ available to everyone,”.

“Opening access created a massive spike in market share of visits for the site, with a 1269% growth from the week ending September 17 to the week of September 24. The site … received nearly 15 million total US visits last week.”

Tim Lovitt, with Google, says, “increasing market share for Google Plus more than 455 per cent compared to the previous week”.

Heather Dougherty added in a blog post on the network’s traffic: “In just one week, Google+ went from ranking as [the] 54th most visited site in our Social Networking and Forums category to 8th place.”

This outstanding jump in Google+ states shows both how many people are interested in joining the site AND how upset people are with Facebook’s recent changes.

Google laptop still known…or is it

So as you all know, Google had its big announcement on Tuesday about their new laptop and operating system, ChromeOS. Unfortunately,  Google decided to recall this and made the decision to not release this till some time mid 2011.  Never the less, prototypes have been sent out to certain people and companies and they have made vague reviews on the new google laptop, the Google CR-48.

Although not too much is known about the laptop, the basic features of it are.  The laptop itself looks like a old black MacBook except it has no product logos or stickers anywhere on it making it very plain and non-appealing. The CR-48 is said to be very light and will have a 12.1″ display screen.

The memory on the laptop is unknown for now but by looking at how fast the CR-48 starts up, 15 seconds to get to the login, we can probably predict that there is a good amount of memory in there. From what, these reviewers have said in their posts and videos about this new laptop, it seems to be very plain. Their “operating system” is pretty much the Google Chrome browser but with some apps here and there. When the system starts up, all there is is Chrome’s browsers with 9 apps. There is a getting started app, two games (poppit, and Entanglement), YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Talk, the Chrome web store, and a note taking app called Scratchpad.

To me, the Google CR-48 looks to be a big disappointment.  Plain looking laptop with a plain looking display and operating system.  But I guess it’s still a prototype so who knows what the final product will look like!
