Xbox Live Coming To Your PC

Earlier today, Microsoft re-confirmed that it will be bringing Xbox Live to PCs running on the new Windows 8.  Xbox Live on Windows (yes, that’s the name) will be bringing the service’s gaming, music, movie and TV content to all Windows 8 devices.  Microsoft has said that they will explain more later into the week, with a build 2011 session for app developers interested in harnessing the service’s features.

Droid Bionic Coming Out Tomorrow

Verizon Wireless has just announced that one of their most powerful smartphones, the Droid Bionic, will be going on sale this Thursday (September 7th) for $299.99.

In case you are unfamiliar with the Droid Bionic, it is the first Verizon phone to run on a dual-core  1GHz processor to run on Verizon’s fast 4G LTE network. And besides selling the phone, Verizon will also be selling accessories for the phone such as an 11.6 inch lapdock for roughly $300.

This lapdock was first brought up at the CES this past January showing the ability of the phone to connect and run the laptop through its powerful processor.  This would give users a full keyboard and large screen to do whatever they like such as edit documents, watch movies, or just browse the web on Firefox.

Although the price of the new smartphone may be high, it is in fact the only smartphone on Verizon that runs on the 4G LTE network with a dual core processor.  Besides this, the phone is also now the slimmest phone on the Verizon market being only 0.43 inches thick and weighing in at only 5.6 ounces.

The Bionic will run on the latest version of Android (Android 2.3.4), and will support up to 32GB of storage.  The phone also has a front and rear facing camera with the rear one being 8 megapixels putting the phone in major competition with newer smartphones.

Although the price is high, it seems the Droid Bionic packs quite the punch and with the external lapdock, it could even be used as a new cheap laptop!

New $2,800 Gaming Laptop From Razor

Earlier this week, Razor announced the creation of their very own gaming laptop complete with a “Switchblade User Interface” which includes 10 dynamic keys and a LCD screen to the right of the actual keyboard that can also be used as a multitouch panel.  The laptop, the Razor Blade, sure does pack a punch and is already  catching the public’s eye with its skinny and lightweight frame while being stacked with the most high tech features out.

The great thing about this laptop? Well for starters, it is less than 1 inch thick, has a 17 inch screen, and comes in weighing about 7lbs.  Some more specs include:

  • 2.8GHz Intel® CoreTM i7 2640M Processor
  • 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 Memory
  • Built-in HD Webcam
  • 320GB 7200rpm SATA HDD
  • 17.3″ LED Backlit Display (1920×1080)
  • Wireless Network 802.11 b/g/n Compatible
  • Integrated 60Wh Battery

The laptop can be expected to start shipping in the fourth quarter of 2011 with a price tag of $2799.99.

This is a huge step forward in the PC gaming area as this is one of the few gaming laptop that are actually portable.

My good friend Marques Brownlee, has created a video reviewing the specs on the laptop itself.

Hands on with the Galaxy Tab

HTC Tablet leaked!

Earlier today, some specs from HTC’s upcoming tablet known to be the “Flyer” were leaked to the public including the screen size, resolution and, processor.

To start off, the HTC Flyer looks oddly similar to the Samsung Galaxy Tab with it having a 7 inch touch screen and 1024×600 screen resolution that will all be controlled by using a stylus.  The Flyer will also be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and will have 1GB of RAM.  It will also be running on Android 2.3 rather than Honeycomb (Android 2.3).

Physical features look decent on the device. It will have HDMI capabilities and also both a front and rear facing camera.  The front is 1.3mp while the rear is 3mp but has a flash.

That’s the end to the leaked specs.  Doesn’t look like this device will be much of a “threat” to other company’s upcoming tablets but still always nice to have options to choose from.

Samsung vs. Apple

So a teaser video on YouTube has been put up showing off the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2’s specs and features and comparing it to the iPad 2, there seems to be strong competition.

The Galaxy Tab 2 will still have a 7 inch display but this time, the resolution will be 2048×1200.  The device is also said to support a 3D display and it will be run on NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor.

The tablet will come installed with Android 2.3 but the user will have the option to upgrade it to Android 2.3, also known as Honeycomb.  Besides this, it will have 1GB of RAM along with a whopping 64GB of internal storage. As a big upgrade from the first Galaxy Tab, the new tablet will have a 8MP rear camera as well as a 3MP front facing camera (the first tablet had a 1.3 MP front facing camera).  Huge advantage over the iPad 2 here as it has been said that the iPad 2 will have only a 1MP rear camera and a 0.3MP front facing camera (didn’t know anything went that low).

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 looks to be a huge competitor towards not only the iPad 2 but also other tablets coming out soon such as RIM’s PlayBook.

Tablet-mania continues

As stated in my latest blog, I mentioned that this will be the year of the tablet PC and so far, it’s been right.  The Consumer Electronics Show, CES, has shown over 80 tablet devices that are all unique in a certain way.

Earlier today, Asus announced their running in the tablet competition by announcing four different tablets that they will be creating.  These being the Eee Pad Slider, Eee Pad Transformer, Eee Pad MeMo, and the Eee Slate EP121.  Not many details of the tablets were announced but a brief overview was given.

First off, the Eee Pad Slider. The Transformer can also be described with the Slider as they are very similar in structure. Both tablets will have a super thin 10.1 inch touch screen display and also a slide out keyboard (shown to the left). When the keyboard is slid out, the screen will be propped up on an angle making it a lot easy to use and see things on the screen. One difference between these two is that the Transformer will be able to detach from the slide out keyboard so you can carry it around as you would with a iPad or Galaxy Tab.  Both of these devices will run on Android’s latest operating system, Honeycomb, which was specifically designed for the use of tablet PCs. The Slider will cost anywhere from $499 to $799 and units will be available sometime in May.  The Transformer will be $399 to $699 and will be released a month earlier, April.

Next up is the Eee Pad MeMo.  This tablet is a little bit smaller than the Slider and Transformer  going at a 7 inch touch screen display.  Unfortunatly there is no slide out keyboard, you use it just as you would with an iPad.  You have the option of either using your fingers or a stylus which comes with it. The MeMo will run on a Snapdragon processor and will have the ability to playback video in 1080p.  The device will nott be available until June and will cost anywhere from $499 to $699 which leaves me wondering why is costs so much if it is smaller and has no keyboard when comparing to the Slider and Transformer.

Finally, we have the Eee Slate EP121.  In my mind, this is what a tablet PC should be like (except should have a keyboard).  This is the largest out of all the devices released from Asus.  The Eee Slate has a 12.1 touch screen display and a powerful Intel Core i5 processor.  This alone seperates it from other tablets out right now.  On top of this, it will also be running Windows 7.  This is what I believe tablet PC’s should look like. Not taking down Android but I think a actual PC operating system should be used on tablets, just my thoughts (comment below telling me what you think). Anyways, this device will cost somewhere between $999 and $1099.  Not stated when it was coming out but we can only hope soon.

Lenovo steps into the ring with the iPad

Earlier this evening at CES, Lenovo showed off their first compter tablet, the LePad.  The LePad will start off in China being sold anywhere from $399 to $449.  Bringing the tablet to the U.S. is still unsure but there is talk that if they decide to, the LePad will be able to connect to the Android market.

The tablet itself looks pretty good. It has a 10.1 inch screen and runs Android 2.2 OS.  It will run on a 1.2 GHz processor making it very quick and easy to use.

Not much is known yet but Lenovo also stated that they will be creating more tablet devices later this year to be released in the U.S. so it looks like there is already a lot to look forward to this year, tablets tablets and more tablets.

CES will bring many incredible electronics for 2011

If you are a major follower of anything related to technology then you should know about CES (Consumer Electronics Show) coming up in the next couple days.  The show will start on Thursday and run until Sunday the 9th.  Over this time period, over 2,500 companies will be showing over 20,000 new products that will be either announced, shown or released.  Out of these 20,000 many will be tablets or tablet related products.  Hence, why people are calling 2011 “the year of the tablet”.

In the past years, the show has been the birth of Blue-ray, DVDs, HD televisions, 3-D televisions, and even all the way back to Atari’s game “Pong”.  Knowing all of this, the show promises this year’s to be bigger and better.  Well, it is definatly bigger.  There is an 11% increase in size from last year making the show cover about 1.6 million square feet!

But anyways, as stated earlier, this show seems to be mainly focused on the tablet as many companies are joining the competition such as Toshiba, Motorola, and Acer.  There will be over 80 tablet computer put on display at the show so obviously there is a lot to look forward to.

That’s it for now, in a couple days there will most likely be a ton of blogs posted because of the massive amounts of new products being released so subscribe to this blog or just keep checking back because it will be a very exciting week!
