Motorola starting off 2011 with a click

Earlier today, Motorola announced that they will be shipping their latest phone, the Motorola Cliq 2.  The new phone will cost $100 with a new contract and about $400 without one.  The phone has a lot to offer and has a very unique design (picture to the left).

As I said, the phone looks pretty sweet and has some neat features. The Cliq 2 will have a 3.7inch touch screen display and will run on the new Android 2.2.  It will also have Adobe Flash support making internet browsing much easier.  The phone will also come with a 2GB microSD memory card although it can be expanded up to 32GB or storage.

Besides the phone, Motorola also released a new app to the Android market.  It’s called DriveSmart and its main purpose is to prevent people from texting or calling while driving. The app is a good concept and seems like it will help (if people decide to turn it on while driving).

Basically, the app will mute notifications for texts and any calls or alarms.  Besides this, you have to option to automatically send a text back (ex: “I’m currently driving and can not talk”) or forward a call directly to a Bluetooth headset or your voicemail. Right now there is a free version that offers all of this but there’s also a $10 monthly version that uses GPS to determine when you should turn the app on and off.  It also gives parents updates on when the driver turns off the app while driving (“overriding it”).

So all in all, the phone and app combination from Motorola looks to be a good start to a good year.  What are your thoughts?

Samsung Epic 4G, how epic is it?

Sprint has announced a new Galaxy S phone to enter their lineup called the Samsung Epic 4G. The phone differs from other Galaxy S phones by giving users the options of a full slide out QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard’s layout is somewhat larger than other QWERTY keyboards on the market. The buttons are larger and the and are spaced further apart making texting or typing much easier and giving the user less chance of accidentally hitting the wrong letter.

The Epic has a 4 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 800 x 480. The phone has a 50,000:1 contrast ratio which in return, supports movies and games to the max. The Epic also has a bulit in 3.5 mm headphone jack and also a 5 megapixel camera with a LED light for both camera and video. To add to that, there is also a 0.3 megapixel front facing camera incuded on the Epic compared to the 1.3 megapixel camera on the HTC Evo.

The phone runs on Android 2.1 along with a 1GHz processor making the phone very quick and responsive. The Epic also has 512MB of RAM, giving the Iphone 4 and the HTC Evo competition. Having 4G connection, the browser is able to run on top speeds out there. However, 4G is a relitivily new service so not everyone will be able to experience it. But when it becomes more popular, people will be astounded on how incredibly fast it is (this is a big addiction to the “epicness” of the phone).

I believe that this will be a great addition to the Android “family”. It provides the customer with a bunch of the latest qualities on a smartphone including the 4G network and a front facing camera. And giving the Iphone a challenge, I think it will be interesting to see how many people pick this phone over it.

What are your thoughts on the phone?

HTC Desire, is it desirable?

Earlier today, U.S. Cellular announced its newest phone to be released on the market, the HTC Desire. After a $70 mail-in-rebate and a two year contract, the phone will be sold for $199.95.

The phone has a 3.7 inch touchscreen with 480 x 800 pixel resolution and runs on Android 2.1 with a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The phone will have GPS and Wi-Fi capability and will also have the ability to download additional apps from the Android market like other Android devices.

As for the “build” of the phone, it is pretty similar to the Google Nexus One phone. There are small differences such as the track ball being replaced with a optical d-pad. There is a slight “chin” at the bottom of the phone and the entire back of the phone has a soft paint on it making the phone less prone to smudges and scratches. It also gives the user a better grip on the phone. The Desire is also very sensitive to touch which many people will enjoy. The phone also supports multi-touch on the browser, email reader, photo viewer, and Google maps.

I believe that this phone will be a good competition in the smartphone market. Although we have pretty much seen this before when the Nexus One came out, I think many people will still find it to be better than other Android devices out there.

So. Is the HTC Desire desirable to you?

Apple revealing a 4th Ipod Touch?

A case manufacturer named X-Doria claimed to have made new cases to fit the upcoming 4th generation Ipod Touch. From the look of the picture, the new Ipod has space for both a camera and a flash on the back side of the device and also room for a front facing camera. Also, the case has a rounded back meaning it will not be following in the footsteps of the Iphone 4.

To provide more “evidence” to this, Apple sent out invitations to a “special event” taking place on September 1st in California.

My thoughts on this? I think it would be great to have these new additions to the Ipod but it seems as though Apple is running out of physical upgrades for the Ipod Touch. It seems that the gap between the appearance of the Ipod and the Iphone is getting smaller and smaller so this may in fact be the last Ipod Touch generation.

Samsung Galaxy tab gives Apple’s Ipad competition

Lately, there has been a lot of hype of rumors about the upcoming tablet made by Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy tab. Samsung released plans explaining the tablet earlier this year but it seems as though they will be launching the device in the upcoming weeks at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.

The tablet itself will have a 7 inch Super AMOLED display screen and will run on Android 2.2OS a.k.a “Froyo”. Besides that, the tablet will have a 1.2GHz A8 processor and will come installed with 16GB of internal storage. Although it only comes with 16GB, it can be expanded to 48GB if you so choose.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab will have a 480×800 display, both back and front facing cameras, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. If that’s not enough, the tablet will also have Adobe Flash Player and Javascript 1.5.

From all of this info about the new tablet, I believe that it will be a big hit compared to Apple’s Ipad. With the large screen, 48GB of storage, fast processor, and the ability to play flash videos, it’s hard to not like this device.

Dell launches its first smartphone…failure?

As more and more smartphones have been coming out on to the cellphone market, Dell
decided it was their turn to step into the contest to make the greatest smartphone yet (or so they think).

Supposed to be launched earlier this year, Dell delayed the launch till now. The phone is
called the Aero and will be sold for $99.99 with a two-year contract from AT&T. The phone itself runs on
Android 1.2 which is a pretty outdated software as of now.

The phone has a 3.5 inch touch screen display and runs on a 624MHz processor which is no competition to the 1GHz chip used in many of the new smartphones being made. The Aero will have a 5 – megapixel camera
and also has Wi-Fi and GPS and of course, you can download apps from the Android
marketplace.

In my opinion, the phone is an OK device but it won’t last long or at all in the smartphone
crowd. To me, the only appealing detail about the phone is the cheap price of it.

Hello viewers!

So I recently started this blog for a couple reasons.  First, to provide another way of telling you guys when I make another video and what that particular video is about.  And second, I would like to start “reviewing” products before they come out.

What I mean is that when a new product is announced by its company, I will show you guys what it will look like, its features and my opinion(s) on it. And then hopefully in the future, I will be able to obtain this product and do a up close and personal review of it.

So stick around, favorite this page, and keep checking back because I will be updating this as often as possible.
